I’m usually not one to describe my musical experiences, but this one is just too freaky.

I was listening at work to various things on Youtube and happened on this song from Tool. Not my kind of stuff, but I liked their videos.

Anyway, towards the end of the song some odd thing happened. It’s like my selfawareness turned into its opposite. I no longer felt like a planet around which the Cosmos turns, or a spectator in a private theatre.

For several seconds I felt as if I had no substance and the music just flowed through me. There was power, but it wasn’t mine to control; nor did it control me. World’s, society’s problems were no longer mine to fix – I felt no guilt about them. History was just a series of events without purpose or meaning.

All in all, it was revolting! But at the same time a very fascinating and liberating experience. It was as if I was for a few seconds someone else.

Kena vahest netist leida midagi, millega tĂ€ielikult nĂ”us oled. LĂŒhinĂ€gelik egoismikultus on kaasajal indiviidi orjastamise tĂ€htsaim vahend.

On suht norm Ôhtu universumiga kahekesi olemiseks, v.a. et mingi mÔttetu vant on minu kohale parkinud. See pluss huvitav loeng (Wolfgang Drechsleri empiirilis-ajalooline majandusteooria) pluss pudel Ôlut viisid mind jÀrgmisele mÔttekÀigule, mis hetkel tundub vÀga hea.

Reaalsus ei sisalda ainuĂŒksi mateeriast koosnevaid objekte, reaalsus on kĂ”ik, mis on tĂ”siasi – (was Tatsache ist). Seega ei sisalda see mitte ainuĂŒksi kĂ”ik objekte, vaid ka kĂ”iki objektidevahelisi suhteid ja kĂ”iki kujutlusi objektide ja nendevaheliste suhete kohta (ja tegelikult veel palju enam asju, mida ma siin loetleda ei viitsi, n. negatiivsed omadused mida asjad ei oma).

Seega on reaalsuses olemas nii asjad, mida on vÔimalik mÔÔta (objektid), kui asjad, mida objektiivselt mÔÔta ei ole vÔimalik.

TĂ”de on millegi (n. mĂ€rgi vĂ”i mĂ€rgijĂ€rjendi/lause) kooskĂ”la reaalsusega. NĂŒĂŒd, mÔÔtmise kaudu on meil vĂ”imalik saavutada tĂ”eseid lauseid objektide kohta – objektide omadused on kvantiseeritavad. On olemas aga suur hulk reaalsust (mĂŒĂŒdid, fantaasiad, tunded – mittemateriaalne osa), mis ei ole mÔÔdetav, seega mitte mingi ratsionaalse kriteeriumi alusel ka kvantiseeritav.

Ometi on mÔÔtmisteaduse (fĂŒĂŒsika ja alajaotused) ning kvantiseerimisemetoodiga (matemaatika) autoriteet nii suur, et me tegeleme suure osa oma elust mittemÔÔdetavate asjade kvantiseerimisega, lootes et nendega opereerimine saavutab seelĂ€bi mingi suurema tĂ”sikindluse.

See uskumus on tĂ€iesti hĂ€mmastav JAMPS – seda enam, et ma ise olen teinud tĂ€pselt seda sama suure osa oma teadlikust elust.

Kui mingi asi, nagu armastus vĂ”i meeldimine vĂ”i lojaalsus, ei ole objekt, siis ei ole selle mÔÔtmine ĂŒhegi mĂ”eldava meetodi abil vĂ”imalik. Kui selle mÔÔtmine ei ole vĂ”imalik, siis selle kvantiseerimine (ilma objektiivse aluseta!) EI TÕSTA VÄHIMALGI MÄÄRAL sellest kvantiseerimisest lĂ€htuva otsustuse tĂ”sikindlust! (Õigemini, selline tĂ”sikindluse tĂ”us on vaid illusioon).

(See tĂ€hendab, et Ă”nnetunde hindamine kĂŒmnepallisĂŒsteemis ei anna meile mingit OBJEKTIIVSET infot selle Ă”nnetunde suuruse kohta, pigem see kahandab seda, surudes seda ARBITRAARSE skaala Prokrustese sĂ€ngi! On suur lollus ja eluaja raiskamine pĂŒĂŒda kvantiseerida kriteeriume, millel puudub materiaalne sisu ja mille mÔÔtmiseks ei ole vĂ”imalik konstrueerida objektiivseid meetodeid).

Seega, matemaatiliste/loogiliste teooriate loomine entiteetide kohta, mis ei ole objektiivselt mÔÔdetavad, nende entiteetide VALEMITESSE AHELDAMINE on vaid mÔttetu ajaraisk.

Naljakal kombel on selline tegevus (mittemateriaalsete vÀÀrtuste kvantiseerimine) ĂŒhtlasi moodsa kapitalismi ĂŒks tugisambaid.

LĂ”petuseks, on siin minu arust tegu millegiga, millele pĂŒĂŒavad viidata need inimesed, kes rÀÀgivad religiooni vĂ”i spirituaalsuse vajalikkusest. On tĂ”epoolest olemas teatavat liiki reaalsed entiteedid, mille puhul kvantiseerimine (mida aetakse tihti segi teadusliku lĂ€henemisega) on mĂ”ttetu ja degradeeriv tegevus.

Teiste sĂ”nadega – kvantiseerimatud entiteedid, millest loobumine vĂ”i mille (pealesunnitud!) kvantiseerimine vĂ€hendaks inimliku tunnetuse rikkalikust.

Mingil moel ma tunnetan praegu, et see Ă€ratundmine on nurgakivi, millelt seistes vĂ”iks terve maailma paigast nihutada. Aga kardetavasti see lĂ€heb ĂŒle, kui ma kaineks saan.

Demythologization

I had  the idea last night, that in some sense, development of the sphere of human thought (and its subsets, including society), could be viewed as progressive demythologization of the Universe.

In primitive tribes, Nature, including men, women and their social organization, is mythological as a whole and there are no distinctions between ways of Universe and ways of tribes, Nature is an anthropomorphized whole (animism is it called, I belive).

With the development of agriculture, mythologization of nature starts to decrease – the world of bear-people and nature spirits becomes something we can learn to control. But the mythologization of human social organization does not disappear, it even seems to increase. We begin to believe, that social hierarchy is something natural and eternal.

Advent of capitalism brings the demythologization of social hierarchy. In democratic republics, social status is something which is not pre-ordained and can be obtained through individual activity. Which means that another layer of mytholgization has fallen away.

So is the Myth gone now, in our age? I think not. The religion of our culture is the mythologization of Individual, of Self, its Desires and preordained Destiny.

I sense here some kind of tendency which is somewhat hard to describe. Demythologization of the world does not seem to be an ongoing linear progress, instead it shoots up whenever a transformation in humanity’s… “Noosphere” is about to occur. Its like increasing mythologization is the final defece line of the old order against the new. What I mean is, that it is shortly before the transformation from feudalism to capitalism where the mythologization of feudal hierarchy becomes the main theme in culture in the form of Monarchy.

Also, it is in our current epoch where worship of mythologized Individual Self becomes the central theme of the culture, more than it was in any earlier period of capitalism. (And a similar increase in the mythologization of Nature could probably be found before transition from tribal life to warrior caste-protected agricultural lifestyle).

If this theory is correct, then as the result of the next social transformation, we’ll see the final  demythologization, the demythologization of Self. This does not mean disappearance of Self, only disappearance of mythical, Heroic Self, who has a preordained Destiny that arrives independent of their personal actions. Perhaps in next level of social formation, individual learns not to lie to him- or herself *about* him- or herself and Mystical Me becomes a self-aware individual, aware both of shortcomings in its existential situation as well as seeing realizable ways for circumventing these.

Meie, teise pĂ”lvkonna haritlased oleme ohtlikud. Esimese pĂ”lvkonna haritlane on uhke juba selle ĂŒle, et ta suutis kĂ”rghariduse omandada. Kolmanda pĂ”lvkonna haritlane saab tĂ”enĂ€oliselt varakult integreeritud ĂŒhiskonna olemasolevatesse struktuuridesse ning teenib status quo‘d.

Teise pĂ”lvkonna haritlased aga soovivad ĂŒhest kĂŒljest ĂŒletada oma vanemate saavutusi, teisest
kĂŒljest aga ei ole veel integreeritud konkreetse sotsiaalpoliitilise formatsiooni vĂ”imustruktuuridega, ei kuulu nn. “eliiti”.

SeetĂ”ttu oleme me alati valmis Ă€ra kuulama ja aktsepteerima teooriaid, mis vĂ”ivad status quo segi paisata, lootes tekkivas segadustes saada seda “miskit”, mida kehtestatud ĂŒhiskond ja igapĂ€evaelu meile nagu anda ei taha. VĂ€hemalt ennast kĂ”rvalt vaadates nĂ€ib see nii😛

An ethical problem

Let’s say we have a plan, which, when applied, will certainly cause the death of hundreds of millions. (For example, we have a plan for collapsing the world economy). However, when we do not apply the plan, billions, perhaps entire humanity will die. The question is – which option would be more moral? On the one hand, preventing death as much as possible should be a priority. On the other hand, the deaths that follow when we do nothing are not “on our hands” and *personal* conscience has always had primary importance in moral theories.
